Dear Diary, P#88: At Last!

(«For Venezuela»/Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

What we witnessed yesterday (01/03/2026), when the United States Army captured a criminal who had stolen the destiny of Venezuela, was one of the most brilliant military operations and a beautiful historical event. It’s a pity that it wasn’t done with Cuba as well, but we do not lose hope that it will soon happen…

I have heard criticisms from some who defend these communist leaders… (as some are doing here in Spain, the usual ones and our embarrassment)… as if they were democratically elected by their people. But they are not, nor were they. These dictators did not come to power by the will of the people, but by force. They impose atrocious dictatorships and try by all means to find useful idiots in other countries who will follow them, and especially, who will defend them.

But I tell you that the worst thing in the world is communism (and socialism, which is the anteroom). It is not progress; it is backwardness. This I learned this from the great and beautiful and historical Cuban exile community in Miami, as I lived among them for many years. The law and the rights we grant to normal countries, under the guidance of the United Nations and international treaties, do not count when it comes to countries ruled by communist tyrants. Did the USSR respect international treaties? Did Castro respect them? Did Chavez, Maduro, Ortega, or Putin respect them?

Then we cannot allow them to use our respect for the laws and love of democracy to gain ground. What Trump did (whom I do not sympathize with) was to free the people of Venezuela. And that interest in Venezuelan oil, what does it matter? It is better in good hands than in the hands of Russia or those of Red China.

And the proof that this operation was an act of liberation is that we see the Venezuelan exile community (worldwide) dancing and celebrating! And those who are in Venezuela are just as happy, although they probably cannot fully express it yet. And I, not being Venezuelan, join in that great celebration.

Your reflection captures the intensity and significance of the moment with both clarity and conviction. I appreciate how you situate the event in a broader historical and moral context, connecting it to the struggles of people under oppressive regimes and the importance of defending democracy and human rights.

I also value the empathy you show toward the Venezuelan people and the global exile community, highlighting the human side of political events. The way you balance analysis, personal experience, and solidarity gives your words both depth and heart. It’s a thoughtful and passionate appreciation of a pivotal moment in history.

  2. I don’t yet know how to process the capture of Nicolas Maduro. But I fully agree w/ you about communism and socialism. Because we have such short memories in the US, these are unrecognized evils which are rapidly gaining ground. I pray for my country.

    1. The way I see it Anna, anything that can be done against a communist dictator, no matter what the ulterior motive is, it is a good thing for the people of that country. I know it from all the experience I got from victims of communism in Miami… And I too pray for all our countries.

No love for dictators, either. It’s a blessing when a free man can speak his mind. I pray that sanctions are lifted now so that Venezuelan society could make some progress.
