#art, What Do You Think of Gerhard Richter?

A most interesting (although his work is quite boring) artist, and one who had the highest paid painting as a live artist… Just to show what you can do with a lot of paint and a large canvas…

But this is art history and he is important. And I would like to know what you think…

Your comment, «Just to show what you can do with a lot of paint and a large canvas» sums up the situation quite well. These paintings do nothing for me.

    1. I think I could see an exhibition of this art in a total of 10 minutes. Yet people have paid millions for his paintings, which he doesn’t even bother to title, just calls them «abstract image». Thank you so much Janet. All the best.

I kind of like his work and certainly wouldn’t include him in the boring, no talent crowd. While I would pause to look at his paintings in a shop or museum, I would be unlikely to even buy a postcard of one of his works.

    1. I agree with you. I know he is not among the no-talent crowd, but I think I could go through one of his exhibitions in about 10 minutes, just like I would a Jackson Pollock one… And well, his paintings do sell for a lot of millions at auction so I do wish I had one… LOL 😊

So more of an investment than because you personally liked it?

      2. In this case absolutely! Unfortunately I cannot reach those prices to collect works of art, so I invest on little known artists hoping… 😊

I’ve seen worse, but I’m not quite sure why he made a fortune out of it.

    1. Well the funny thing is that, although he has made a very good living, he did not benefit (well only his name/fame) from the record sales of his paintings which were in the hands of collectors… That’s the way the cookie crumbles… 😏

I prefer his work than Pollock’s. I am only a bias viewer no art training what so ever. I hold my ignorance license.

    1. Thank you Cassa Bassa. Yes, I too prefer him to Pollock, but that’s not saying much 😊.

I don’t understand pouring paint free from art, I don’t have the eye to appreciate them..did I say a little bit more? 😆
