#opinion, Dear Diary, page 6, «The Age of Hypocrisy»

(Charcoal drawing by and property of Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

We live in an era where «they» hide the bones but later want to paint them. What does this mean? I don’t know, you think about it, I am sure everyone that thinks on this for a minute will come to a concrete and meaningful thought. Or not… This is the age of contradictions, without a doubt. But that doesn’t matter because the objective, the end, is to confuse us all. «They» proclaim freedoms for «self-proclaimed» social groups, but they gradually take away freedoms from the normal whole. They do this drop by drop, so we don’t realize it. But many of us have noticed, we have awakened from the foolish dream we dreamed after taking the thousands of drugs and other sedatives that were shoved down our throats. And when we opened our eyes, what we saw was the scum and not the steel.

We were once steel, full of strength, life, vitality, energy, and creative thoughts. We made music with spiritual, social, political meaning, etc. We fought for a free world where, respecting the rights of others, we could express ourselves as we pleased. Love was free, sex, as well as the human body was not a taboo, and we experienced relationships free from the orders dictated by churches or courts. The cultural revolution gave us great strength and set the guidelines for the years to come…

But now we are the scum. «They» govern us, manipulate us, distort our words, overlook our intentions, impose fools in place of politicians that tell us they are our leaders. We used to have «public servants» and now we’ve «government officials!. And worst of all, the ones who govern and limit us the most are the algorithms that control all our social media, our so-called «free» social networks. Yes, they started as free networks, but today they are all controlled. Nothing exists anymore; reality is a fiction fabricated by the elites, (the «they»), to make us think we live in a democratic republic.

The wise ones of old are now the modern day hypocrites. The «elite» are the new priesthood. The new magician kings will turn everything they touch, not into gold, like Midas, but into shit. Shit for us, the gold for them. The «they» are hiding behind a huge impenetrable, (or so they think), curtain like the Great Oz. They give us clues about their existence but they do not show their face. I tell you, the demented are running the world after escaping from the looney bin. And where is the police to protect us?

I really would like to hear what you think…

Between reimagined Imperialism, Robber Barons, and gilded plated toilet seats, we are careening back to the late 19th century when the bwanas were in charge, and female and minorities supposedly knew their place.

    1. You’re right Pat, and the saddest part of it all is that we volunteered to become cattle, sheep and slaves…

So much truth to what you say, Francis. I think that currently Spain is having some similar problems that the United States is having. Our government is currently run by billionaires and so people who need assistance are the last people on the agenda. It seems that people on pensions in Spain are currently looking at a potential wait, for an increase that was given now to be voted on. People that live in the US are being threatened to lose their Social Security and other benefits that they paid for all the years that they worked. It also appears you have a housing crisis going on and we have as well. Young people cannot afford to buy a house. It’s almost an impossibility. The poor, the quiet, and those who are most vulnerable do not have a voice. Women have the most to lose in the United States because rights we have been fighting for centuries and had finally gotten into a place where there were oversights to ensure that we were paid the same as a man doing the exact same job, etc. were in place. Women have a voice, women have rights, and women are every bit as smart as men, but historically have not been treated as such. This is what we women in the United States are facing as women. I think almost everyone is a little bit of a hypocrite. If we take a good look at ourselves. Social media is horrible and yet we still use it. Why is that? I think if people really stop and think about that question they will come up with an answer as well. As for where are the police in the United States people are shot in their own homes if they are black when they need assistance. In terms of slavery, the global slavery index estimates that more than 50 million people are currently trapped in modern day slavery.
According to the same source, “Human trafficking is currently the second largest criminal industry in the world reaping an estimated 32 billion in trade of human beings, which puts it just behind the drug trade.” Voice4freedom.org/what-is-modern-day-slavery We are like the people being ruled by the corrupt Pharisees. One last comment people want the freedom to talk about social justice and what’s right and wrong and yet people are scared to death to do so, afraid they might offend someone who’s listening who has some power in the literary world. People want to read happy poems and hear happy things. People need to learn to express their opinions in a way that are not so judgmental against others or against certain groups, but yet need to speak up in my humble opinion. This was a great post. I hope some people stop and think about what you had to say here and I help people also read my comment because it’s extremely relevant in the United States. I hope the protest go well that are scheduled for today in Spain. Blessings to you and your family. Love, Joni and Scott.

    1. Thank you Joni. I believe that an artist has to speak, and I do without fear. One must speak as one feels without offending, without threatening, and without trampling over other’s rights. All the best.

I could not agree more, I think it’s a responsibility that writers have to write the truth or their truth. I appreciate you doing that Francis and agree with what you say. Unfortunately today when you speak your truth, any of us you do offend somebody I’ve seen it too much on social media and on WordPress to know that that’s the truth. Yet we shouldn’t keep our words to ourselves if we feel strongly enough about something. I too have offended others, but I don’t let it keep my voice silenced nor will I ever. There should always be respect for other people‘s right their own opinion, but it often seems that someone will be offended and actually really hurt other people‘s feelings with their comments. I applaud you speaking your mind as it takes courage to do so. It does seem as if we are having some similar problems in our countries right now, that is unfortunate. I admire the people there for standing up and having protest. All the best to you too as well.

      2. Thank you. I do not speak my truths, just opinions and I do not try to offend nor does it apply to the feelings of others, but to our rights to know and to freely express ideas. All the best.
