
This magnificent complex, housing a royal palace, a monastery, a library, a school and as well a royal pantheon was the largest building in the world when it was built by the most powerful monarch in the world at the time, King Phillip II of Spain. El Escorial was built in 1561 in the town of San Lorenzo del Escorial in what is now the Comunidad de Madrid.
I visited the complex of buildings earlier this January (2025) and was truly amazed. I wanted to share some of the photographs…
