Tragedy hit the group in October of 1977. A horrible airplane crash took the lives of Van Zant, Gaines and other members. This caused a sudden end to the band. But they regrouped in 1979 and later in 1987 with Ronnie’s little brother Johnny as lead vocals.
The above photo shows the band as it was before the crash in 1977. I tell you that I really enjoyed listening to this group and I still do. What do you think?

Absolutely!!! Lynyrd Skynyrd is legendary. Their southern rock sound has stood the test of time, and their music continues to inspire. «Free Bird» and «Sweet Home Alabama» will forever be iconic.
The tragedy of the 1977 plane crash could have easily been the end of such an incredible band, but their resilience and spirit kept them going. The loss of Ronnie Van Zant and the others was devastating, but the band’s legacy lives on through their music and the passion they poured into every performance.
A true Rock ‘n’ Roll treasure…
