Very fortunate to have a personal guide in Italy in the ruins of Herculaneum and surrounds. The ancient craftsmanship with tiles, no less, put European PAINTING of 400-500 years later to shame. Some of the private homes were absolutely stunning even after hundreds of years and catastrophic volcanic incursion.

These are all amazing! I find it pretty incredible how the most detailed Roman mosaics used small stones to achieve an effect like brushstrokes. Thanks for sharing, I hope your Sunday is going well. Aiva 🙂 xx
