Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin, who later became known as Frédéric François Chopin, is one of my favourite composers, not so much for his scherzos but for his dark and melancholic music – a true genius. You may already know that he was born in Poland on March 1, 1810, and died at a young age in 1849 in Paris.
Chopin chose this piece to be played at his funeral. It is certainly the darkest composition of all his works. It ends with a fading away…smorzando…that foreshadows the impending death…
It’s title, according to George Sands’ daughter Solange, could have been:
«Quelles larmes au fond du cloître humide?»
Gracias…
Cheers…
You are really on a classical tear today. Would be interested to see what you would do with Beethoven.

The piece does little for me, displays not much of the constructive genius of his joke pieces.

You’re not into dark, brooding piano preludes Espie?

Oh, it’s not a distaste by class (genre), but the best I can say here is that for such genius to regale us with thematic boredom leaves me to say, «Meh!»

Thematic boredom… hmm… that is a good description, not of the prelude but useful for other things. I’m learning… I do understand though as I can apply that thought to a bunch of people too…
