Although most of the artists are familiar to me Francesc, many of the paintings aren’t. By the way, as you’re such a fan of Picasso, is there a reason that I haven’t seen you include ‘Guernica’ – or have I missed it?

    1. Definitely a great admirer of Picasso, but Guernica is not among my favourites, I mean I was awed when I saw it at the Reina Sofia, but that was it. I have included paintings that have taught me things throughout my career and that I have come to love. Now if I were able to buy one of them, it would be hard to choose… LOL! Thank you Malc, it is always great to see you around. All the best

Not being able to appreciate art in the same way as you do Francesc, I was never a great fan of Picasso – but I thought that Guernica was a terrific painting in as much that it told a story that many of us couldn’t equate with before.

      2. Yes, the way he captured the essence of the suffering of war, of everybody that war touches, civilians and soldiers, animals, everything and he made it universal, it could be any war. That’s what makes Guernica great. I’ve seen the photographs of the development of Guernica and the changes he was constantly making. Brilliant and extraordinary effort, both in his painting of it and in Dora Maar’s photographic documentation of his work. But, although I do not argue that it is a
Masterpiece, it is not among my favourite. From the point of view of art, it has little to teach me. Although all paintings do teach one something.

I guessed your response would be along these lines Francesc.

    2. Oh, and by the by, Guernica was a commissioned work by the Republican government of Spain, and they paid over 500.000 pesetas at the time. It did not sprout out of Picasso’s imagination…

I see. Thanks for that bit of info. I can now understand why it doesn’t figure as high as other work of his now.
