From the photos, I’d say you’ve left one «paradise» for another. Here’s hoping the one where you are now will be more relaxing than Miami turned out to be.
Miami has changed so much that I was really anxious to leave. Yes, it looks like a paradise and it looks like a city, but it isn’t. It’s just buildings with many restaurants where breakfast will cost you, for two people, $120,00! And dinner over $300! There are bars and haute couture stores but nothing else that you would want and need in a community, so it’s a mirage. Taxes are through the roof but you get nothing in return. Everything is extremely expensive and you have to wait eternally for any and every service. It’s not the Miami I once lived in and served in the police at all. But I sold my flat there so I won’t be going back, my friends will have to meet me in other places, lol! But here, on this side of the pond where I am happy!
It’s horrible what Miami has turned into, and those prices are outrageous for anyone other than professional sports figures who are obscenely overpaid. It brings to mind the words of a song, «They paved paradise and put up a parking lot,» only it seems Miami has become the poster child for ruining the paradise God created. Very sad. So much for that… I wish you a wonderful and peaceful summer in Europe.
The Miami I arrived at as a child exists only in the memories of some of us. It has gone through several metamorphosis but this last one is truly outrageous. Almost everyone I know is leaving Miami in a hurry and no one wants to come back because it is not like coming back to your old neighbourhood, it is like coming back to an entire new city with new and different people there, so it is unappealing. And yes, the cost of living in Miami is outrageous! I am glad I sold and got out when I did as I just found out that my condo building just issued a special assessment of over 75 thousand dollars to each unit! All the buildings on Miami Beach are now being reassessed and re-inspected because of the Surfside building collapse last year that killed more than 90 people. It is a disaster waiting to happen in many buildings in the area, especially the ones on Collins Ave. next to the ocean. I am glad to be in Europe. My good friend is in North Carolina, she says on the «peninsula» and that it is quite beautiful there and she’s now thinking of relocating! Imagine that!
All the best Janet.
