Music for this Sunday Morning: «Cotton Fields»

(Huddie Ledbetter, Leadbelly)

«Cotton Fields» was written by American (US) musician Huddie Ledbetter, known as Leadbelly. He recorded it in 1940.

There have been many covers, I think the most popular was by Creedence Clearwater Revival, from their album Willy and the Poor Boys (1969).

Funny enough (at least for me) was that The Beach Boys also recorded their own version in 1968 with Al Jardine singing…

There are many more covers, including from such great artists like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and even Elton John. But it seems to me, like most things, the original is my favourite.

Check them out, tell me what you think.

Cheers…

I like all three versions that you’ve shown here Francesc, but I particularly like the CCR’one. It is indeed a wonderful song.

This is a very old song that people use to sing in the south but I did not know the history. Fascinating. Thank you Francis. Hugs you two. ❤️🦋🌹🤗
