A truly BLACK day for democracy in the United States! Why should five unelected individuals decide against the will of a nation. That is the definition of TYRANNY.
Faith saved us from the savages that we were, losing faith makes us savages again

Crazy president crazy outcome. I’d blame Mitch McConnell for allowing one nut to choose three judges. He abused his power. IMHO. Cheers and thank you 🙏.

Yes! Absolutely! But these judges should not be there for life, they should be rotated among all federal judges

All democracy the supreme court is one of the pillars of USA division of power, they are some who are trying to bring it down, just like the US. The system work for over 200 years, simply the best; leave it alone. Each State can now vote on how to deal with this issues on their own. Cheers

If Supreme Court justices begin to reshape the democratic ways of the nation, they should be impeached. It is a flawed system because as we have just seen, the judges appointed by the least popular presidents were the ones who voted to take away peoples rights, and that is not their function. Just because a system has been in place for hundreds of years does not mean it is good, my friend. Thank you and all the best!

The system works for over 200 years, nothing to change. Those who want to change wants to destroy the system I know on the dark side of history on two countries. The supreme court did not voted to take peoples right, they only pass on the decision to the STates and closer to the people, that is the best way. You do not change the USA!!

The USA needs Democracy! Thank you Pedro and a lovely weekend to you.

The supreme court is democracy, with different branches of government that is the USA if you do not know or understand it They are the legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the Federal courts, respectively. Amén !

I agree, Francisco. Mitch McConnell kept switching rules on appointing Supreme Court justices so four conservatives could change what many mistakenly assumed were rights. I guess gun rights are more important than a right to chose anything from getting pregnant to who gets you pregnant.

That’s exactly what they wanted. Proof of that is look at who are the ones celebrating, and Mitch McConnell is certainly one of them, along with Trump!

Dark days for America which is in danger of not making it’s 250th birthday in 2025.

True story. An unusual American-made ship has been sailing around the Atlantic Ocean. Called the Mayflower, it’s controlled entirely by artificial intelligence. AI captain, AI crew. Last month the AI captain detected a mechanical problem and elected to sail to Halifax for repairs.
You have to wonder, when faced with going back to America, did the AI robot say, “Mmm, maybe not. I’m going to Canada.»

It was indeed a dark day for democracy in the US. The fact that Trump’s appointees to the US Supreme Court all lied under oath when they were being questioned by members of Congress has essentially made a mockery of the Senate hearing process for justice nominees. Mitch McConnell had way too much power to decide not to schedule hearings for Merrick Garland during President Obama’s last year in office. The Republicans knew exactly what they were doing. Now Trump has them by the nose and 99% of them are too cowardly to admit it and kick Trump out of their party. The idea of turning major issues like abortion and gun control over to the States is a cop out and it will never work. I guess we’ll have to change the name of the country to «The States of America» because we’re losing much of what unites us. The rich will continue to get safe abortions, no matter what country they have to travel to. The poor will go back to the rusty coat hangers in back alleys like they did before 1973. Guns have more rights than women in the US now, thanks to Trump, McConnell, and the spineless Republicans in Congress who refused to buck either of them when they had a chance. I truly worry that one of my great-nieces could be raped by some scumbag now and be forced to carry an unwanted child to term. I guess the majority of Supreme Court Justices don’t have such concerns. The Republican Party wants to save every unborn child, but they turn their backs on them as soon as they’re born. They vote against every social safety net bill that comes down the pike. They don’t want them to be fed, clothed, or educated. And then they call them «lazy.» I never thought I’d see my country in such as state as I do today. The prospect of Trump’s ilk being elected to local, state, and national offices in the next two years scares me to death. The Justices Trump got to appoint to the Supreme Court and hundreds of federal judges on the district level will scar our nation for decades. Old white men continue to make all the rules and not suffer any consequences. I’m sure you’re very glad to be back in Spain.

I must say that I fully and completely agree with your analysis of the situation and the poor prognosis that it has generated. It is incredible that all of this has happened and that so many people in the US support and applaud the men and women who are doing everything they can to destroy the concept of democracy that has sustained the country for so long. There is much work ahead for the Democrats but I do not see them even getting started. The pendulum has swung towards their side after the Supreme Court decision but will they maintain the focus of attention on electing Dems to office next November or will they just forget and allow laziness to supplant the need to get up and vote? There are more Dems than Reps in the US, so why are they dictating the American future? Because Dems are not willing to even vote! It is frustrating and frightening to think that Trump can once again run for office. But worse even that his MAGA people will as well at the state level or for governorships! Amazing how quickly the pillars of democracy get eroded. Yes, I am much happier with our parliamentary democracy because it provides for more democracy. Even minority and regional parties have much to say in Congress and in the passing, or not, of laws and the opposition can get rid of the government at any time if need be and our Supreme Court justices are not there for life, they are rotated among the judiciary according to the judiciary and the government ratifies them and of course, the King must approve but our King never interferes with the elected members of the government as they are there because of the will of the people.
Take good care Janet, God is still in charge even though these folk think they are. All the best.

Change the constitution. Until that happens we use the system we have. And it is not perfect. We have a federal constitutional republic. We are bound to follow the constitution, not by nationwide popular vote.
