A Brief Look at Some of the Art Vanguards of the 20th C.

(«Composition 7», 1913, Wassily Kandinsky)

There were many vanguard movements in art starting in the XX C. Most have been left where they were and forgotten, but some have continued on. I would say that the most successful ones have been Expressionism and Abstract Art. Although the «genius» of the XX C., Pablo Picasso, invented Cubism, that style or movement is no longer practiced by contemporary artists, although no one can doubt that it continues to influence art today.

Here are a few and their creators or followers…

The only one I could guess before learning who the artist was was the one by Rothko. I had a boss who was really into Rothko. I saw some of his artwork at a museum in Washington, DC.

    1. Yes, Rothko is very easily identifiable. Actually his paintings you really have to see in museums as the photographs online do not do it justice…

An interesting post Francesc. I’m not a great lover of some of these artists, but it’s always worth knowing about them all, so thanks for that.
