Although you might know her as the wife of Modigliani, I want you to know her and remember her for her artwork. She was a trained artist, having studied at Académie Colarossi and her work was top level without a doubt. Jeanne Hébuterne was a model for Tsuguharu Foujita and that was how she met Modigliani in 1917.

Both lived a very «Bohemian» lifestyle. They had a daughter and she had to be given up…later to be raised by Modigliani’s sister…because they could not support her due to their lifestyle.

The day after Modigliani’s death from tuberculosis, Jeanne committed suicide by throwing herself off a fifth floor window.

Jeanne was born in the Seine-et-Marne department of France in 1898 and died in Paris in 1920.

Although her parents strongly objected, loved won out and she moved in with Modigliani and the passion began…

I leave you with this, just a glance and invite you to pursue the search. If you are an artist, a collector, or a lover or art, Jeanne Hébuterne is an artist you should study, especially if you are also a fan or an admirer of Amadeo Modigliani.
Cheers…
A completely new artist to me. Thank you for the introduction, Francisco!

There are many very good artists out there, especially female artists, that have been left out. It’s about time that some artists that are hanging in museums should be replaced with some of the ones that have intentionally been ignored. Thank you my friend!

So much talent, so much passion, so little time to live.

Yes, her story and Modigliani’s is a true tragedy.

A classic love story with a tragic ending.

Exactly. The story really ends 10 years after their death. When she died (suicide) her parents buried her in a small cemetery but 10 years later Modigliani’s brother reinterred her together with Modigliani so they could be together again. How about that for an ending?

On this one, I pass. Nothing save the tragic story interests me.

It’s quite a story Espie, but I tell you, I prefer her to Modigliani…

her tragic and premature death robbed the art world of seeing what she could become
