Art History: Margaret Keane

An interesting story, the story of her life. If you want to know about it I recommend the film by Tim Burton…

These are some of her paintings. I did not provide the names or the dates, that you can find out through research, but at least I wanted you to see them and then you can relate them to the paintings done in the supposed new style called «low brow»…

(2022)

Cheers…

    1. I am glad you liked it Beth. If you like this kind of art you might want to check out Mark Ryden from California…

This is one of a few «art» forms I think absolutely repulsive. That includes the new «kiddie» art. Now, I shut my yap.

    1. No doubt I agree with you on that my friend, but she’s a famous American artist and must be featured. She has skill but her subject matter is definitely quite boring to me. All the best!

Oversized and exaggerated features are nothing new to art. Although I enjoy her work, it does seem inexplicably linked to this one feature. There is obvious talent and tons of technique, but little growth or creativity. Her story, on the other hand, is something to hear. Great post, Francisco!

    1. Yes, in this case the story surrounding her art is more interesting than her art. I do admit she has skills but her subject matter somewhat bores me…
      Thank you my good friend!

Wonderful video and music, Francisco. I wonder if she was the genesis behind the late 60s/early 70s big eyes pictures that for a while were almost up there with Hummel figurines and a later Precious Moments figurines.

    1. Thank you Pat! I don’t know about that but I am pretty confident she inspired recent artists like Mark Ryden who heads the «underground low brow» art movement. If you are into this type of art you can check out his work. It’s pretty creepy but technically quite good…
