This is a special part of the Art History series featuring some of the great artists of all times. As you might have guessed I am a big admirer of El Greco and I have done other videos about his work.
I invite you to check this one out:
And then this one:
It is the appropriate time of the year.

This was an excellent post – even by your exceptional standards Francesc. I’m not a religious person, and I know that you are, but I have admiration for El Greco’s paintings, as I saw some of those on display in the Prado. On the whole though, I’m not so keen on the modern interpretations, as they don’t seem respectful enough to me (the first Dali one being the main exception).

Yes, I have to say that the Dali even impressed me, Malc. It is a great painting by any standard. Dali went through a time when he became very Catholic and mystical. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your replies and your visits. Have a great Wednesday, here in US today…they say…is the «middle of the week», (for me it remains Thursday). Cheers and all the best.

I love the El Greco paintings. The way Christ is looking upwards towards His Father in heaven, his face is so solemn and I like the dark tones of the background. His face is so beautifully portrayed in all three paintings. The pieces are all so lovely and it is easy to see the differences especially the colors and the effect it has on the feeling one gets when looking at this scene. La Santa Trinidad is my second favorite. I just love the bright light of heaven opening up for God to receive His Son. The angels and the little cherubim at Christ’s feet. What an amazing artist!
Salvador Dali – I really love that first representation. Just a beautiful post as always and I also enjoy the music on all your videos. Thank you for sharing and what a beautiful post to have on Holy Week, Francis. Blessings and love to you and your family from us.

Beautiful, Francisco and obviously a labor of love. In the US, we call Wednesday Hump Day because we are more than half way over the week and coasting toward the next weekend.

Thank you Pat. Well but if you count. Starting on Monday, you find that Thursday is in the middle, as the week ends on Sunday. That’s why we say Thursday is the middle of the week… 😊

We only count the workdays because it is bookended by the weekends. I remember from my Spanish classes: Lunes, Martes… that the week does begin on Monday, but here we usually start our count on Sunday, Monday… Neither wrong, just cultural differences.

Got it. Cheers Pat! 😊

These are perfect videos to share for the season, brother! The crucifixion is a powerful and iconic image. And the representations you choose show the wide variety of perspective and expression.
