Art History: PoP ArT

(Book cover art by Andy Warhol)

So, this is another one of the hip, bang, up to date vanguards of the 20th Century, «Pop Art». You probably know all about it because you know who Andy Warhol is, but there is more, and more interesting artists that contributed to this genre. I urge you to watch the video…

(2022)
(Andy Warhol’s «John Lennon»)
(Pauline Boty «The Rolling Stones»)

Cheers…

Thank you for sharing more than just the Warhol images we have become enamored with as indicative of Pop Art. There are many artists who have worked in this style with beautiful success. Well shared, my friend!

    1. Yes indeed, and much better artists than Warhol, in my opinion.

Personally most «pop» art is junk. I’m allowed that, right?

    1. Absolutely! I think most of it is rubbish as well! I’ve no use for it, but being that it is one of the «vanguards» of the XX C. one must look at it as part of Art History, but I tire of it immediately!

Francisco, this was a fun video. Some of the artists’ names flashed by so quickly that I did not have time to read them. No one can ever accuse you of being wishy-washy on what you think. I like the music you composed for this short video.

To understand ‘Pop Art’ you had to live through the time period, which I did. It never floated my boat then, and it still doesn’t now (mostly). It’s all part of art history all the same.

I have to admit that I did quite like Warhol’s image of John Lennon, but I’m still perplexed as to why, as a huge Beatles fan, that you didn’t take a look at my latest post about them.

    1. I am not, nor have I ever been a fan of Pop art or of Warhol. I did like Peter Max and Richard Hamilton a lot more. Reference to your latest post about The Beatles, I never saw it. I did not know anything about it but now I will certainly look for it Malc. Thank you for letting me know. All the best to you!

I’m not sure why you didn’t know that I posted it, especially as I told you I was going to, but at least I know you didn’t see it. Have a great wine time 🥂

      2. I will look for it Malc, you know I love your posts, all of them, I enjoy reading and delighting in your wonderful photographs and the series you are doing on The Beatles, well, can I ask for anything more? All the best to you, and in a few minutes, almost 1900 hours here on the continet and that means wine time, I will raise a glass of red (from Utiel-Requena, Valenciano wine, very good) to your health my friend!

Pop Art does nothing for me. I didn’t «get it» in the 60s and I still don’t see what all the hoopla was about or how it continues to exist. Another entertaining and informative piece, Francis. It amazes me how you’re able to create all these art history videos nearly every day.

    1. I too am not a fan at all of pop art. The only one that I liked was Peter Max, but I really do not consider him pop art. He was a talented artist, not a pretender like the king of pop art Andy Warhol. Thank you Janet. All the best to you.
