Thursdays Tunes on a Tuesday! «Feeling Alright?»

(Traffic in 1968)
(Released in 1968)

Written by Dave Mason, this was one of my faves, especially this version by Joe Cocker:

(1992)

Of course the original was released by Traffic in 1968, both in the UK and in the US and it failed miserably in both countries. Then Joe Cocker…the Man!…recorded in 1969, changed the name to «Feeling Alright», added some conga drums and, as Lou Reed would put it, three coloured girls from Motown and transformed the song into a rock classic!

Here is another cool version by Isaac Hayes:

(1973)

And even Lulu in this surreal-paranoid video from a popular US Television show:

(1970)

And even by the whitest black «soul» group of the sixties:

(1970)

Cheers…

Nothing against the original or the other covers, but the 5th Dimension version is hard to beat. The rhythm section makes that version really swing! Great choice to share, my friend!
