This painting is one of a series that was to be but never became. I painted it in 2006 and took it with me to a show I was doing in the Aegean coast of Turkey. I did not intend to sell it, not because I liked it so much, but because I thought it would be hard to understand. I did get offers but I turned them down because no one really wanted to know why they were willing to buy it.
Of course I do not do that with most of my paintings. They are all for sale, after all, and I don’t really care why someone wants to buy it as long as they pay me for it. But in this case, it was different. I had conceptualised the epitome of the celebrations to the Greek god Dionysus, (Dithyramb), because he is, after all, the god of wine, and wine is very important to me. This systematic and synthetic approach amplifies the meaning and the reason for the existence of this painting. It falls into the category of symbolic-surrealism done in an expressionist-abstract manner.*
So I painted «Ditirambo y Paranoia en Do♭M» with this celebration in mind and with a glass of my favourite Rioja next to me, just for inspiration as I never drink when I paint, not even wine. The result made me flip, trip and fly surrealistically through the realms of reconstructive paranoia, because as I painted with my left, with my right hand I was playing an improvised tune in C♭ (C flat), which is Do♭, (Do bémol majeur), on a Pan Flute to recreate a Dithyramb.
As a companion piece to this surrealistic paranoid expression, (little seen until now), I suggest you take a look at the following video which shows some of my work from that same time and from that same show…
Cheers…
* Paparruchas y pamplinas, vale…
* Loads of BS, okay…
If you are leaving a glass of red wine lying about, I think I know why the cats are so happy!

Wow, I found it very interesting. I saw woman made from man and the temptation of woman and man. The devil all around and then the fall of mankind. Maybe I need a glass of wine. Honestly that is what I was thinking until you explained your back story and I would have to be honest and say I don’t know the story of that god. I enjoyed the video as well with your beautiful work. You put so much time in your posts. Lovely Francis

The house sleeps so I had to mute the sound and could not enjoy the music. Perhaps I will come back when the house is up and about. These after the B&W abbreviations are my favorite FCB works – something in the unapologetic boldness that speaks vibrant life.

Love the painting and the story. Looks like you experienced a creativity high brought on by inspiration, Dionysus, and the proximity of your rioja. Salud from the People’s Republic of California where we are joining like minded companions for margaritas, chips and queso dockside in San Diego. Salud!

Well Pat, it is. At one time it was not but now it is, however, if you would like it I can only sell it after October as it is in my home in the Aegean and I won’t be there until the summer and returning to Spain in October. If it calls, you must reply… 😉
