This was very informative Francis and I loved the examples of work you used to show the differences in the two types of art work. Your pieces were beautiful and I don’t think I had seen them before. I loved the “Mask,” series and the “Critic,” as well. Great music composition. I really enjoyed that creation as well. Lovely, informative post. Thank you. Hope you two have an amazing day. Sending our love. ❤️🤗🦋💝

    1. Thank you so much Joni. I am glad you liked it and I appreciate your kind words of encouragement. Those paintings were from the end of a period of almost 6 years when all I did was to draw and create the JaZzArT series in black and white, as well as hundreds more. So when I returned to painting I was able to develop abstract art and became aware of its philosophy. All the best to you both, a great weekend and our love 😊🌹♥️🙏🏻🙋🏻‍♂️

You are welcomed my friend. I love your black and white work. I think my favorites are a combination of abstract and figurative. There is so much to explore and study. Your work catches the eye and you continue to look because there is so much there. On the example “Critic,” I love the way you place a cross right on his lower face. Thank you for the lesson. You two have a blessed weekend and we send our love. ❤️

Informative and thought-provoking, Francis. When I’m choosing fabrics for a quilt or other sewing project, I wish I had your eye for color combinations. You truly have a God-given talent and a skill learned through years of practice and experimentation when it comes to the use of colors. All the best from a cold North Carolina where an ice storm is predicted for Saturday night and Sunday. Stay safe. Stay well. – Janet

    1. Thank you so much Janet. I truly appreciate your words and your support always. I am sorry to hear about an ice storm coming your way tomorrow night and Sunday. Take good care of yourself and stay warm. Here it is cold, as it should be at this time of the year, we did pass a week of pretty unseasonable warm weather but we are back to normal temperatures, however, it is sunny and nice, no rain and no snow. All the best, and I will be getting around, for sure, to reading your blog, I have just been too busy with non-art things these last few days.

Another intriguing insight into your abstract paintings Francesc. I particularly liked the 2005 painting ‘Fantasmas de Ciudad’.

    1. Thank you Malc. As much as I love doing abstract work, I rarely find abstract paintings that truly attract me, that would make me look at them for more than a second or two. Abstract art seems to me like a step towards something in many cases.

Even though you’ve taught me how abstract thoughts eventually become art on a canvas, I find it difficult to interpret what is going through an artist’s mind without some form of explanation..

      2. Unfortunately a lot of artists that attempt abstract art are not thinking of anything except of throwing paint on a canvas and perhaps just moving it about a bit…

That’s probably why I fail to understand some of it then and why I understood the explanation about your abstract art

As the reference for abstract art is internal for the artist, the appreciation of the art must also be internal for the viewer. Sometimes this can be difficult to find. I do feel that abstract art can be more emotionally conveying, but oft in ways never intended by the artist. Great post, my friend!

    1. And I quite agree my friend. However, there are more bad abstract paintings than figurative out there. Mostly because many artists, not well trained in Art as a philosophical and academic subject, think that anything goes with abstract art. That makes, for me, most abstract art I see very boring. Even the «big»names like Kandinsky and Pollock, an expo of their paintings I can see in less than ten minutes…thank you so much my friend.
