I love the examples you selected to represent this transformative period in art. The details and palette of these are tremendous. Another great post in the series, my friend!

    1. Thank you so much my friend. I really feel it is important to bring as much information, knowledge and examples of art because I know that people, most people, like/love art. I saw that last year at the entrance to the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, there was a queue more than 100 metres long! Cheers my friend.

Just me perhaps, but I find these artists paint faces with less expression, less honesty. Less honesty? For example, flawless skin, wrinkle-free brows and eyes, «universal» facial composition. Nice and talented, but somehow lacking. Tank you this morning, Francisco.

    1. And a very good observation. During this time they focused more on the allegory, the anecdote and on things like optics and perspectives but they did not really attempt to portray emotions too well. You are absolutely right. All the best Espie and a great weekend to you.

How interesting to see the variety of the influences of different artist from different countries. I loved all the pieces you chose but the girl with the bird at the end was so illuminated some how. Interesting that optic illusion was used so long ago. Great post. I assume that the artist were paid well since during this period of time they were highly sought after. Thank you so much Francisco. You two have a blessed week. ❤️🤗🦋🙏

    1. You know that the painting of the Girl with the Bird is my favourite as well…thank you so much Joni and I am so glad you liked it. I don’t know how much these artists made, but one, Velazquez was paid for by the Royal Court so I am sure he had a great lifestyle. All the best and a blessed week to you both as well.

You are welcome. Yes I am glad you agree there is something so pure and precious about the Girl with the Bird and I have never seen it before. It is almost like she is glowing. I am glad to know at least artist received decent money finally for their work during this time in history. Thank you for these historical lessons they are wonderful Francis. All the best to you two as well. Have a truly blessed week.

We tend to think all great art has come out of Europe. Thank you for reminding us today that nothing could be further from the truth. Another informative blog post, Francis.

    1. Thank you so much Janet. What I aspire to do with these brief glimpses into art history is to get people interested in further research and also to bring forth artists that are not on the usual, most common lists. I know people love art and knowledge of its history makes one a better artist as well as a better lover of art. All the best and I’ve your latest post on stand-by for tomorrow as its past midnight and time to rest.
      Francis
