I do not usually do religious themed art, but sometimes I do. This is taken from a larger painting (which is now in a private collection in France) and turned into Art Digital. All the colours and other aspects of the composition have changed completely from the original and now I have chosen it as part of my fine art prints collection and I’ve made it available here at Pixels.com for everyone.

I love to teach, (seen my video series on Art History? No? There’s a link below), but there are some things that I just won’t teach to artists, or students, or art lovers, and that is how to draw. To learn to draw you have to take classes specifically geared at getting you acquainted with the different forms of graphite (pencils), charcoal, Conté Crayons, pastels et cetera et cetera. Then you learn to «see» and to «look» at your subject. Classes are good because they usually have models and I cannot do that from this blog…

But I will say that there are a few things that I can reach out and teach from this vantage point of mine, i.d. my blog, and that is I can try to guide you to think as an «artist» (whatever that is). First, there has to be an incredible urge to express, to reach out, to talk to someone out there, or to everyone. Musicians do that, and of course, their method (song, musical piece) is much more immediate, but we can do that with our art as well, now much easier thanks to the Internet.

Second, you have to know how to dominate and master your craft. That comes only with practice and time. And intimately tied to that is the development of talent. Talent is not something magical that is given to some and denied to others. Talent is a muscle that is developed through hard work. The more you draw the better you get, the more talented you get. Ever heard of «practise makes perfect»?

Don’t worry too much about creativity, imagination, originality or other such terms used by many to talk about art. Art does not depend upon creativity or on the artist’s imagination. And originality? What is that? Is there anything that has not been done before? Originality is not important. What is important is how you approach your subject matter and how you bring it to life on the canvas or the paper or with clay, bronze or even gold.

Art is created by the artist as a discipline, as a job well learned and well developed. It does not flow intuitively, like a child would do. And yes, intuitive art exists but it should exist solely as an experiment an exercise and as a way to get to a real work of art, which is something contrived and controlled, from beginning to end, by the will of the artist.

Here are some examples of some of the drawings I have been working on lately. Notice the line, and notice the development of the composition and how, after you know where your drawing is going, shadows are created, lines are reinforced or removed, altered, changed, in other words, turning the sketch into a finished work. And, of course, these are exercises, they are meant to be a finished work, but not something other than that, being a fully developed idea.

Cuba: Revolución sin evolución

Corría el 2015 y andaba yo por la Calle Obispo de La Habana Vieja cuando se me presentó este cuadro callejero y no quise pasar la oportunidad de hacer una foto que supe, inmediatamente, seria icónica, bueno, al menos para mi, para representar lo que es Cuba.

El negro viejo vende periódicos a once céntimos (de un peso cubano) que compra a nueve. Así trata de llegar a fin de mes…

Al fondo un bici-taxi, una de las formas mas populares para trasladarse por La Habana. El taxista probablemente está pensando en como va llegar a fin de mes…

Y ¿el policía? Le da la espalda a la Calle Obispo, mira de reojo al negro vendiendo periódicos, quien sabe en que está pensando, pero a mi me parece que está aburrido de la vida, que prefiere relacionarse con los obreros y con los cubanos «de a pie», que con sus amos del Ministerio del Interior, el temido «MININ»…

Y lo que vi, durante mi corta visita a Cuba, es que la gente solo quiere ser gente sin importarle las derechas o las izquierdas. El hambre que existe en Cuba es por evolucionar, pero el gobierno solo quiere enfatizar la revolución y poco caso le hace a la evolución.

JaZzArt as a New Fine Art Print

I began developing the idea of «jazz-art» back in 2009. That was the year of the crisis and I thought I should strive for something new and different in my art. So I started with proto-jazzart leading me to Jazz-Art and then to «JaZzArt in Miami» which is now «JaZzArt en València». Now I have chosen some of those black and white (graphite and ink on paper) drawings, turned them into Art Digital to be able to be converted into fine art prints. Jazz para meditar – Meditation Jazz – Español/English

Cuando estoy por esas encantadoras islas del mar Egeo, me levanto antes que salga el sol y me pongo a meditar por unos minutos mientras que ese raudo foco sube y se adueña del cielo…

Entonces, como siempre me ha gustado meditar un día decidí escribir una pieza para usarla de música para meditar y se la puse a un vídeo del amanecer, a la imagen majestuosa del sol saliendo sobre el mar Egeo…

Ahora os lo brindo para que meditéis. Es una meditación corta, no hace falta mas, después de todo no os vais a convertir en monjes tibetanos. Solo os costara cortos minutos del santo día y vais a ver que buenos beneficios tiene.

When I am in those enchanting islands of the Aegean Sea, I always wake up before the sunrise and I meditate for a few minutes while that speedy red ball rises to dominate the skies…

I have always taken meditation as something serious in my life, so one day I decided to write my own meditation music and join it with a video of the sun rising over the Aegean Sea…

Try to meditate while you watch and listen. It is short, don’t fret. After all you don’t need to become a Buddhist monk, all you need is a few minutes of your day.
