I think you’ve heard me talk about how much I love dancing. Dancing is a delight, watching people dance, painting people dancing, envisioning choreographies while listening to an interesting piece, all these things excite me. So, here I propose an Aragonese jota in my own Valencian way…

#music, Ellis Marsalis

(Foto/Photo Billboard)

Sure! Here’s the translation of the previous text to English:

Come on, let’s conclude this musical Thursday with the one who started it all in the Marsalis family, Ellis, the patriarch who was born in New Orleans in 1934. His father, Ellis Marsalis Sr., was a merchant and a civil rights activist for African Americans in the United States. Ellis graduated from Dillard University (a private university primarily for African Americans in the region) in 1955, where he studied piano and classical music. In the 1950s and 1960s, he played with great jazz musicians like Ed Blackwell, Cannonball Adderley, Nat Adderley, and Al Hirt. In the 1970s, he taught at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, where his students included Terence Blanchard, Harry Connick Jr., Donald Harrison, Kent Jordan, Marlon Jordan, and Nicholas Payton, all great jazz musicians and many from New Orleans. Marsalis was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2018. The city of musicians, New Orleans, has the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music at Musicians’ Village in his honor. Unfortunately, due to complications related to COVID-19, Ellis Marsalis passed away in New Orleans on April 1, 2020. He was laid to rest following the New Orleans tradition with a Jazz funeral.

Aqui os dejo con un ejemplo de lo que es un funeral Jazz de Nueva Orleans – Here I leave you with an example of a New Orleans Jazz funeral:

We now come to the trombonist of the Marsalis family, Delfeayo, who was born in New Orleans in 1965. Like his siblings Wynton, Branford, and Jason, he is the son of the great pianist and paterfamilias Ellis Marsalis. Delfeayo has released eight jazz albums, starting in 1992 with «Pontius Pilate’s Decision» on the Novus label, and in 2020, his most recent recording to date is «Jazz Party» on the Troubadour Jass label.
