A veces el pincel piensa por si mismo…

A veces algo se incorpora a uno y de las mismas neuronas señales emergen y los brazos a moverse y los dedos cogen el pincel y empieza así a convertirse el impulso en una pintura… raro, ¿No?

A veces las líneas convergen, a veces se separan, a veces se ensanchan y a veces se desaparecen en lo blanco del papel… Así es el arte a veces…

Sometimes, the brush decides to go on its own…

Sometimes something comes over us and our neurons begin to emit signals and our arms move and our fingers grab the brush and the impulse begins to turn into a painting… Strange, no?

Sometimes lines converge, other times they separate, sometimes they grow thick and sometimes they disappear into the whiteness of the paper… That’s how art is sometimes…

Bueno, Omnia Caelum Studios Valencia (OCS Valencia) no se muda para la ciudad condal, mi querida Barcelona, pero Francisco/Bodo si se presentará en la gran urbe catalana en diciembre… Así que para cumplir con el primer paso, estaremos fuera de Valencia unos días… Le ruego a todos vosotros, mis queridos amigos, suscriptores y lectores que me disculpen porque no estaré tan activo en VALENCIARTIST como de costumbre, pero os prometo regresar con muchas cosas nuevas, y lo hare muy pronto. Mientras tanto dejare entradas programadas todos los días… Un fuerte abrazo a todos…

Well, Omnia Caelum Studios València (OCS València) is not moving to the Ciudad Condal, my beloved Barcelona, but Francisco/Bodo will be present in the great Catalan metropolis in December… So, to comply with the first step, we will be away from València for a few days… I kindly ask all of you, my dear friends, subscribers, and readers, to forgive me because I won’t be as active on VALENCIARTIST as usual, but I promise to come back with lots of new things, and I will do it very soon. Fue pintora impresionista, escultora, y diseñadora. Esta artista francesa nació en Étampes en 1853. Un hito en su vida, y en su carrera, fue cuando a los 23 años de edad pintó un retrato de la actriz Sarah Bernhardt. Es posible que haya tenido una relación sentimental con la famosa actriz ya que se conocía que era lesbiana. Desde el 1874 comenzó a exponer en el Salón de París. Pintó los murales decorativos de varios ayuntamientos parisienses y también hizo muchas pinturas para otros edificios de París. Abbéma fue una de las artistas cuyas obras fueron expuestas en el Edificio de la Mujer en 1893 para la Exposición Mundial Colombina de Chicago, con el fin de mostrar los aportes de la mujer a la historia. Una de las obras expuestas fue el busto de Sarah Bernhardt. En 1906 la nombraron Caballero de la Orden de la Legión de Honor. Murió en 1927 en París.

She was an Impressionist painter, a sculptor, a designer and as well as a prolific writer. This French artist born in Étampes in 1853. A notable incident in her life occurred when, at the age of 23, she painted a portrait of the famous French actress Sarah Bernhardt with whom she might have had a romantic affair. She was known to be a lesbian. In 1874 she began exhibiting at the Salon de Paris. She also painted the decorative murals for several city halls throughout Paris as well as providing paintings for other municipal buildings in the French capital. Abbéma was one of the artists chosen exhibit at the 1893 Women’s Building of the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago, a hall dedicated to exemplifying women’s contribution to history. One of the items she exhibited was a bust of Sarah Bernhardt. In 1906 she was named Chevalier of the Order of the Légion d’honneur. Louise Abbéma died in Paris in 1927.

Acaba de morir el 17 de noviembre (2023) el pintor vasco Agustín Ibarrola, vanguardista y muy conocido por sus trabajos de «land art», o sea, arte ambiental u obras de tierra… Agustín nació en Bilbao en 1930… A los 16 años expuso su arte por primera vez y aunque comenzó como autodidacta, en 1948 estudió con nadie menos que con el gran pintor español Daniel Vázquez Díaz, hasta 1955 y este lo introdujo a la pintura cubista. Pero en 1950 conoció al escultor vasco Jorge Oteiza y este a su vez lo llevó al conocimiento de la división y análisis del espacio, cosa propia del constructivismo… En 1956 se traslada a París y forma parte del Equipo 57 junto a otros artistas españoles residiendo en Francia y además activos en el constructivismo (una de las vanguardias en la pintura/escultura del Siglo XX)… Pero ya para el 1960 había incursionado en la política y fue detenido en Bilbao (1962)… Ya entrando en la década de los 80 comenzó a crear esculturas y a desarrollar su visión de la obra pictórica, que se reflejaba en ciertas obras, como sus «Bosques»… Fue muy reconocido, la Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes (1973) junto a los otros del Equipo 57. Tambien recibió la Medalla de la Orden del Mérito Constitucional por su actividad en favor de valores constitucionales y como fundador del Foro de Ermua,14​ y la Medalla al Mérito en el Trabajo.

What is more important to an artist, inspiration or training? (And I am referring to all the arts)

Lamentablemente muchos políticos se olvidan que siguen siendo simples ciudadanos como todos nosotros…

Here are two paintings from days of old. They are from my days in Miami, Fla… The first one goes back to 2005 and the second one to 2007. Both paintings are now in private collections in Europe but the images remain and the reasons I painted them as well remain. Here’s a little more about my Surreal-Expressionism and my JaZzArt.

LA VIOLINISTA

“La Violinista” is a prime example of my style, “Surreal-Expressionism”. The violinist as the every-woman-musician. She is faceless and nameless. Yet she exudes style and grace as well as a clear, and well defined, femininity. The Violinist is in motion, walking among those that look upon her and either understand her work or are perplexed by it. No one is indifferent to her as she moves. The painting, true to Surreal-Expressionism, has an abstract background where three flowers bloom and grow and form an acute triangle within the composition.

Moño Azul

An example of early Surreal-Expressionism which keeps up precisely with the precepts of JaZzArt. I was still researching both at the time, (2007), when «Moño Azul» was painted. It is done with acrylics on canvas. The background is abstract and filled with color. The principal part of the composition is the blue silhouette of a woman whose hair is combed into a bun. She is looking to the right side towards a very stylized, Egyptian-style flower. To the left of the main part of the composition one sees the more surreal aspect of the painting where a face seems to hover above a hand-drum, symbolizing the creation of music which rises, like black smoke from the drum.

De ahi, claro, nos movíamos a muchos otros lugares para exponer y representar nuestro arte. Este es un recuento unido a una canción que escribí un tiempo antes. Those were the days when Omnia Caelum Studios was Omnia Caelum Studios Miami and our base of operations was in Miami Beach, Florida. From there, of course we went to many places to represent our art. This is a trip through time united to a song that I had written a few years before. I hope you like it. And yes, I am Bodo Vespaciano…
