Bajo sus alas, bajo sus alas enormes y blancas,
bajo sus alas hay
refugio,
calor,
tranquilidad
y sueño y
bajo estas alas espero y
paso la tempestad.

Llamo, y llamo, y llamo con mi voz que ruge
bajo alas,
protegido,
satisfecho y
me pregunto,
¿Quién me cuida?

Solo estaría entre lobos y zorros,
tontos y necios,
ciegos y brutos
que devoran las almas de los hombres
y mastican la piel de las mujeres,
escupen fuego
y lucen hermosos
en la oscuridad.

La luna es el sol de la noche,
cuya superficie nadie ha pisado
ni nadie pisará,
pues solo ella pone sus pies
sobre ese estrado
cuando las estrellas del cielo
la coronan con luz.

Y yo bajo sus alas, sus alas,
su manto,
sonrió.

¿De acuerdo?

Que alguien me diga porque permiten que pintorreen las paredes, en fin, la propiedad ajena, de esa manera… Que alguien me explique porque tenemos que enfrentarnos día a día a esa fealdad… Y que, por favor, os urjo, que alguien me diga porque tenemos que soportar esa falta de urbanidad… Así están las calles de Valencia, pero me imagino que las de tu ciudad también y esto no debería de permitirse porque medios hay para frenar esta oleada de guarradas en las paredes y en casi todas partes, porque no hay ni un solo de estos garabatos horrendos en la ciudad de las artes y las ciencias…

Can someone tell me why they allow these scribblings on the walls, on private and public property?

Can someone explain to me why we have to look at these ugly markings every day?

And can someone tell me, and I urge you to give me an answer, why we have to be confronted with this lack of civility?

These are the streets of my city, Valencia, but I am guessing they could be the streets of your city as the whole of Europe is suffering this indignity…

But I am sure that high standing neighbourhoods are clean and decent…

Robert Lenkiewicz was born in London in 1941, son of Jewish refugees that fled from Nazi Germany… At 16 years of age he was accepted at Saint Martin’s School of Art and later attended the Royal Academy of Art… He relocated to Plymouth after his neighbours in London complained that he allowed drug addicts, derelicts, and who knows who else to shelter in his studio… He gained recognition with his giant mural on Plymouth’s Barbican (1970’s)…

In the 1990’s he began to get more and more recognition… 42.000 of his countrymen attended a retrospective of his art in 1997 at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery… He died in 2002 of a heart attack with only £12 and a huge debt… Some media reports placed Lenkiewicz’s estate somewhere around £6.5 million. Maybe because of his library of antique books on witchcraft, the occult, metaphysics and medieval philosophy. Yet when Sotheby’s auctioned the entire estate in 2003 it raised less than £1 million.

He never cared about courting the London art crowd or acceptance from anyone who would not accept him on his own terms. A true artist.

(Sorry but I could not find the dates of any of the work, except for the mural and even that was just in the 1970’s)
