Grises cuando nacen y son criadas y blancas ya de adultas con ciertas manchas negras en las alas y la cabeza… Son aves oportunistas, omnívoras y hasta ladronas… Adornan las costas con sus vuelo encantador y también con su no muy encantador ladrido… Algunas de sus 56 especies llegan a vivir hasta 49 años… Como siempre he vivido junto al mar las gaviotas para mi han sido fuente de inspiración y también de entretenimiento viéndolas volar y luego zambullirse en el mar en búsqueda de un pez… En Cadiz me encontré con dos que me hicieron el cuento de la buena Pipa, aquí están…

La dios Nut es la diosa del cielo… Hija del dios Shu y de la diosa Tefnut madre también de los dioses Osiris, Isis, Seth, Neftis y Horus el viejo y en algunos lugares de Egipto se le consideraba madre también del dios Ra, dios del sol. Ra viaja todos los días por el cuerpo de Nut hasta desaparecer dentro de su boca que lo llevaba al inframundo.

La razón de ser de esta diosa y la cosmología egipcia en términos generales, me fascina y me ha dado mucha tela para pinturas y dibujos.

The existence of this goddess, and Egyptian cosmology in general, fascinates me and has given me a lot of material for paintings and drawings.

Neo-expresionista, escultor y pintor… Estudio en Düsseldorf nada menos que con Joseph Beuys, artista alemán del grupo Fluxus. Siguiéndole los pasos a Beuys, comenzó haciendo instalaciones, performance y happenings y en la década de los años 70 comenzó a pintar… Este alemán que ha expuesto en las Bienales de Venecia (1980) y de París (1985), tiene una buena serie de cuadros en las colecciones del Museo Guggenheim de Bilbao desde 1990… Nació en Donaueschingen, Alemania el 8 de marzo de 1945… Sus obras son gigantescas y repletas de elementos y gruesas capas de pintura que hace y deshace para insinuar el paso del tiempo. Primero se basó en temas germánicos, pero en los años 90, comenzó a viajar el mundo y se inspiro en temas más universales, aunque con referencias a la religion, a la simbología, la mitología y la historia. Pinta la sombra de la espiritualidad que cae sobre la mente humana… En 1993 se traslada a Barjac (Francia) cerca de Aviñón, donde vive y trabaja creando nuevas experiencias artísticas.

Neo-expressionist, sculptor and painter… He studied in Düsseldorf, no less than with Joseph Beuys, a German artist from the Fluxus group. Following in Beuys’ footsteps, he began making installations, performances, and happenings, and in the 1970s, he began painting… This German, who has exhibited at the Venice Biennale (1980) and the Paris Biennale (1985), has a good series of paintings in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao since 1990… He was born in Donaueschingen, Germany on March 8, 1945… His works are gigantic, full of elements and thick layers of paint that he applies and removes several times to suggest the passage of time. He initially focused on Germanic themes, but in the 1990s, he began to travel the world and was inspired by more universal themes, although with references to religion, symbolism, mythology, and history. He paints the shadow of spirituality that falls upon the human mind… In 1993, he moved to Barjac (France) near Avignon, where he lives and works, creating new artistic experiences.

Ende fue la primera mujer artista de la nuestra peninsula ibérica. Quizá fue la primera en Europa. Ilustraba manuscritos en el monasterio de San Salvador de Tábara (en Zamora, Castilla y León) y también pudo haber sido monja… Parece ser que su gran obra, el libro «Beato de Gerona» (del colofón del libro es de donde conocemos su nombre) que es un comentario sobre el Apocalipsis compilado en el 786 A.D. y que se encuentra en la Catedral de Girona… Aqui algunas de sus obras…

Ende was the first female artist in our Iberian Peninsula. Perhaps she was the first in Europe. She illustrated manuscripts in the monastery of San Salvador de Tábara (in Zamora, Castilla y León) and may also have been a nun… It seems that her major work, the book «Beato de Gerona» (her name is known from the colophon of the book), is a commentary on the Apocalypse compiled in 786 A.D. and is located in the Girona Cathedral… Here are some of her works…

The city is a fishbowl… And we swim through streets of dirty water that flows through bars, churches and schools. They whet my appetite… They wet my shoes and rip open the skin that covers my body, remove my lungs and, put in their place gills so oxygen can flow…

To create abstract art you must keep sight of your reference, but it must remain completely hidden from the observer of the work. In abstract art the reference is within the mind of the artist. On canvas nothing must be recognisable and nothing must resemble anything of the natural world. If anything does, then the painting is no longer abstract, it becomes figurative.
