#art, Bodo’s «JaZzArT» back in Miami…

(Surreal-Expressionist JaZzArT by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

During several years, back when Omnia Caelum Studios was in the city of Miami, Florida (US), I created a huge collection of graphite and ink drawings all on the subject, and theme, of Jazz as it can be applied to art. I called them, naturally, «JaZzArT» and I did them in my unique surreal-expressionist style. A way of painting and drawing that I have developed to create a surreal composition with expressionist elements. In this case they refer to Jazz musicians and combos…

Bon dia!

#poem, #art, TODAY IS THE DAY!

(All Rights Reserved)

Today my friends, someone who I greatly admire, a fellow poet, Joni Caggiano, and wonderful friend, is releasing her poetry book «One Petal at a Time» and you can find it on Amazon! Joni is a phenomenal poet and I have had the extreme pleasure, and honour, of having been invited to participate in the book by creating the cover and providing art for its different sections. This is an incredible book, and the poetry is ripped right from the author’s soul. Joni’s aim is to reach all those who suffer and who have had a childhood in a dysfunctional family mired by alcohol abuse and unhappiness. The book is endorsed by Dr. Claudia Black, PhD, among other professionals in the field.

God bless you Joni and Scott and we all know this is going to be a smashing success! Cheers my friends!

#music, Finishing Our Musica Middle of the Week!

(The Village People/foto/photo NBC News)

This song was going to be used by the US Navy as a recruitment tool until they discovered that the group was composed of a bunch of gay guys (not the singer) and they dropped it like a hot potato! Hehehe, how ridiculous these sailing boys! But the song is a jewel of the decade when the best music of the XX Century was made and of the XXIst Century as well…

#music, Let’s Go Softly Through This Middle of The Week Music…

(Soft Cell/foto/photo IMDb)

«Tainted Love» was composed by Ed Cobb, (US born composer) formerly of the Four Preps, (a US group) and the song was originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964, who became known in the UK as the «Queen of Northern Soul.»

Probably the first hit that marked the techno-pop of the 80’s… Of course the song is older, but Soft Cell turned it into an anthem for the 80’s generation… «Tainted Love» was composed by Ed Cobb, (US born composer) formerly of the Four Preps, (a US group) and the song was originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964, who became known in the UK as the «Queen of Northern Soul.»

#music, And the Music Simply Continues…

I remember that here in Spain there was Simply Red fever! And, well, we all fell for songs like this you’re going to listen to… The song «If You Don’t Know Me By Now» was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff (the creators of the Philadelphia sound) in 1972 for Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, and when they released it, it was a great success. But for us, when Simply Red released it in 1989, it was amazing…

#music, More Music as Today is the Middle of the Week!

«Hungry Like the Wolf» fue un super éxito.

This is from 1982 and one of my favourites from that decade and the next, Duran Duran… «Hungry Like the Wolf» was a huge success. The video, which is amazing, was shot in Sri Lanka! Wow! These guys were awesome… And this song, wow, how can you not like it when it’s based on Little Red Riding Hood…

#music, It’s Thursday! Music Today!

(Human League/Photo Bios Musicales)

This song was one of my favourites back in 1981 and 1982. It was Human League, from the UK, and the video is too cool. (I would say one of the things I like the most about watching movies and videos from those years is that nobody pulls out a mobile phone from their pocket and starts texting, bloody hell!).

#music, #jazz, Something Special for Thursdays Middle of the Week Music!

(Viola Smith/photo The New York Times)

Well, as the ones who read my blog know, I have dedicated many posts to bringing forth women artists and that means women musicians as well, especially great and famous ones that perhaps might not have reached your eyes and ears. Today I, a lover of Jazz, feature the great female drummer Viola Smith!

This great woman of the world of percussion (mostly dominated by male drummers) and of Jazz, who lived to the age of 107 years! She was born in the US, in the state of Wisconsin in 1912 and died in 2020! She studied piano as a child along with her nine siblings, seven of which were female. Her father created an all female band and Viola chose the drums. The band played in a dance hall owned by her family in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin…

You have to hear her, there isn’t enough I can say, and the all female band as well! Phenomenal!
