The Holy Inquisition was definitely not an act or an institution of holiness. It was an institution of power, of greed, of fear, superstition and atrocities that has forever become the greatest symbol of injustice that the world has ever seen. It began in France and spread throughout Europe. One of the names that sticks out is the English King Henry VIII who persecuted Catholics and who mercilessly killed thousands of them. Another was the French crown and the Pope of Rome who also condemned countless numbers to death, including Saint Joan of Arc and Galileo Galilei (who although his death sentence was commuted, died under house arrest). Let us not forget that the Black Legend of the so-called Spanish Inquisition is a myth created by the Dutch and the English in an effort to undermine and discredit Spain, which at the time was composed by the united Kingdoms of Castile and Aragon.
Let me know what you think…
Cheers…
Well done and comprehensive history. You didn’t mention, Henry’VIII’s daughter, Mary who was also known as Bloody Mary (before the brunch drink of the same name). This makes me wonder if the Inquisition was the inspiration for the Nazi Holocaust, not that I have ever heard the connection mentioned.

Good point Pat. I thought about Mary Tudor but I had to shorten the script. Good point about WWII holocausts, the Nazis, the Soviets, the Japanese, who all contributed to making WWII a holocaust for sure. Thank you 😊

Good points about the other countries having their own version of the Holocaust. I really hate when people who do not like any of the US COVID restrictions (shutdowns, masks, or vaccination mandates) compare themselves to Holocaust survivors.

True, it is a very insensitive attitude for sure Pat. Have a great weekend and enjoy Wine 🍷 Time!!!

This was very interesting and I think important for people to know about if they don’t. So many innocent people were killed so horrifically. I really enjoyed the history with dates included and the music was very appropriate for looking upon the paintings shown. The piano was particularly haunting, great composition Francisco. It is hard to believe how much detail was captured in these amazing but horrifying paintings. Yet I am grateful it was captured. Excellent post, yes I would love to hear more. 🤗❤️ you two have a blessed day. Joni

Yes they are Beth. Art is a tremendous chronicler of the times…

Art is always a reflection of the times in which it was created. Capturing both the good and the bad. To forget the past is to repeat it. Loved the music for this piece!

Thank you so much Brad. Yes, art is and has always been, a way to chronicle the times, and it has always included both the good and the bad. I am so glad you liked the music. All the best,
Francis
