I’m curious about her message. Is she negative about women or saying that women are beautiful no matter what? These particular paintings seem to reflect a negative attitude toward women. What are your thoughts?

No, not at all. She paints reality, especially her own. Her philosophy is not to recreate aesthetic beauty as it is generally accepted but beauty reflected in the imperfections of the body. I have never read anything that would lead me to believe she has a negative attitude towards women. She is the model many times, reflecting, I would say, an acceptance of reality. Thank you Dawn for allowing me this small dissertation to further amplify the message and the power of this great woman artist.

Thank you for clarifying. I asked because she seems like a thin person with flawless skin, yet she modeled for some of her paintings which portray women as overweight and flawed skin-wise. But that’s the beauty of art! Artists can take an ordinary subject and turn it into something extraordinary.

True, but she has had many periods in her life of being greatly overweight… thank you Dawn and all the best.
