Why did Texas governor not blame guns?

(Victims of gun violence in Texas)

Texas governor today in a press conference said the problem was a lack of mental health centres in the area of the city of Uvalde…

Does he think that we are all stupid?

The problem is the proliferation of guns! Who ever heard of a civilised society that allows 18 year olds, without any training or background checks, to buy guns!

The governor and the lawmakers have lied to America. Folks with mental health issues do not massacre children. But those who somehow decide to do so, find it very easy to get guns, military weapons and bullets to do it.

The problem in America is guns!

May those innocents rest in peace.

I am so sad about this, as for the Governor, and others like him…I prefer not to write anything…..trying to keep some peace of mind…

In the past two years, Texas has repeatedly eased gun laws so that the denizens of TX can better protect themselves from guns. Now they want to encourage teachers to pack heat to protect their students. I never want to move to TX.

    1. It was quite a horrorshow to watch the news conference with Gov. Abbott and how he and his minions of supposed TX law enforcement all blamed mental health issues and lack of assistance for this horrific crime against people. Not one of those Texans said it was because of the proliferation of guns.

Guns Uber alles. It is not an all or nothing issue. You don’t need an assault rifle to kill Bambi if you want to hunt, please just use or donate the meat.

      2. Hunters exist in all countries of the world and they do not commit crimes with guns. But those who buy, stockpile and praise assault rifles, well…

Many Americans distill this down that any gun control means taking away all guns no matter why they have them.

    1. They must be taught otherwise…

They show a disturbing tendency to believe what the NRA and its political flacks tell them.

IT’s an American right by the 2nd amendment to the great US Constitution; no problems there. The problems is in the States that can modify adapt the amendement to give more protections to its citizens, The US Supreme Court would not rule against any State willing to adapt these laws as not to allow military type guns etc. for example. Of course, the governor does not know what he is talking about as many others.

    1. I am of the opinion that the 2nd amendment to the US constitution says the right of a well armed militia, not the right of 18 year olds, untrained and inexperienced, to purchase an AR-15.

Constitution no doubts. Read the law the states can modify it but not take arms away. The states can pass a law to say 18 yrs old cannot buy a ar15…comprende.

In 1996, we had a school massacre here in the UK at Dunblane in Scotland. Even though our gun laws didn’t permit the general use of firearms to the public at the time, laws were tightened up even further. Thankfully it’s a rare occurrence for a mass shooting to occur here these days, and although there are incidents from time to time, they are nowhere near at the same level as they are in the US. I’ve tried to understand the gun lobby’s mindset, but to me it’s quite simple – the fewer the number of weapons there are on the streets, the fewer number of unlawful killings there will be. It’s as simple as that.

    1. It certainly is, Malc. But in the US they are being ruled by a minority that think that to stop a bad guy with a gun you need a good guy with a gun! That doesn’t work. The majority of US residents want gun control laws and a ban on assault weapons but the minority in power wants to continue getting the support from the NRA (National Rifle Association) which is the biggest lobbyist in the country…

I think that most Americans are somewhat centrists, despite the louder howls from either side.

Malc, one of the national news organizations pointed out that Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, and one of the Scandinavian countries (blocking on the name) changed their gun laws after a single horrific incident. In the US we are decades into this problem and still can’t agree on common-sense laws about this issue. As some of them say, «You can take this gun when you pry it out of my cold dead hands.» Not one of America’s prouder efforts.

The US is the flagship country for people who want to live in the free world and it has many things to be proud of – but this isn’t one of them.

      2. Totally agree…but here in Europe we are also the bastions of Democracy and for people who want and love living free. No?

What a true and honest post about such a horrible sadness. I agree with every word. So sad. It is scary when anyone can get a gun. I have grown to hate guns. I have never understood the reasons for guns. It is heartbreaking. Countries that don’t sell guns have far less shootings. Praying for all lives changed forever. Blessings dearest Gül. ❤️🤗🦋

    1. You are so right Joni, life is more peaceful without so many guns around and especially in hands that are not educated, trained or experienced. Nowadays children grow up with violent video games, confronting always the screen of a mobile phone or a portable and reality seems to blend with fantasy for them. It is time they were really educated with morals and with God. And it is time that governors, senators and representatives realise that it is not a lack of mental health that causes these horrific events, it is the proliferation of guns. They say guns do not kill, but if they didn’t then why do we go off to war with guns? Thank you so much Joni. Blessings and peace to you and your lovely family. Big hugs from us in Miami Beach.

You are so right. Scott and I are currently living in a Stand Your Ground State. This is so frightening and especially because it is a racist State as well. That actually means that if you are “packing” what carrying a concealed weapon here in NC means, and you say you feel threatened you can legally shoot the person and get away with it. If it is a white person killing a person of color not too many questions are asked. Those children that were killed in this horrible shooting, were the ages of our grandchildren. My daughter was talking this morning about what a horrible discussion it was trying to explain to them what happened, before it was brought up the next day in school. I can’t imagine having a young child or even a teenager in school today I would be afraid all the time. I am sorry I didn’t see Gül’s post yesterday. It was certainly well said. Blessings to all of you and thanks for caring so much even though you don’t live in the United States I know you’re here now but you will be going home to your Valencia soon. Guns are a big reason we have been waiting for the right time to move. We abhor guns. ❤️🤗🦋🙏
